Keen Parts helps Street Outlaws star Shannon Poole live the dream

Shannon Poole aka Big Dookie is one of the stars of Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings. This new Discovery Channel show follows a group of street racers running at a new track each episode as they compete for a weekly $40,000 prize.
Growing up in a Chevrolet racing family
Shannon received his love of Chevrolet and racing from his Dad. If you follow his life, it’s easy to see that they also gave him a deep sense of appreciation and a drive to pay even more back to those who befriend him. His father Dale took a job at a gas station when he was only ten years old. He saved enough money to buy a 1961 Chevy Impala and later fixed it up as a drag car. Even today, father Dale has a C3 Corvette that is drag prepped. Shannon attended the Gator Nationals at the age of 6 months and made his first run in a drag racer well before most of us learned to drive! At only 13, he drove his father’s car in a drag race. Shannon says that he was hooked on racing from then on.
Living the dream- with a little help from his friends
Shannon credits his close friend Kye Kelley for being on the Discovery Channel. Kye and Shannon raced together for years in southern Louisiana and Mississippi. The channel already had a hit called Street Outlaws when Kye took his Camaro to an Oklahoma City show filming and had an impressive showing. He raced so well that the Discovery Channel decided to start a new series featuring he and his fellow racers and Street Outlaws: New Orleans was born. Shannon uses his TV fame to help anyone in need. He has a permanent offer to travel to charity events at his expense to help however he can. His Facebook page (with almost 20,000 fans!) is filled with events he has benefited.
The 1964 Corvette gets the full drag prep
Shannon had been successfully running a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle called “Big Dookie,” but wanted something different. Happily, Dale had something different in storage- a 1964 Corvette! Dale watched the 1964 Corvette on local streets for years. The car changed hands several times and even competed in NHRA Super Gas. The owner lost interest when he tore the car down after the season and Shannon’s father purchased it immediately. The Corvette stayed in storage for 22 years when Shannon decided to convert it to a street racer. It turned out beautifully.

Shannon was running the 1964 Vette on the Street Outlaws: New Orleans series and ran into some tough times as he calls it. The end of the bad luck was an accident on the track where he hit the wall at speed. Thankfully, Shannon was bruised, but not seriously injured. The Corvette did not fare as well as the nose and rear hit pretty hard, and there was severe fiberglass damage. The car was due to be displayed at SEMA in a matter of weeks. Shannon dreamed of showing at SEMA, but it just was not going to happen. Keen Parts to the rescue! Tom Keen heard about Shannon’s lousy luck and offered an entire 1964 front fiberglass clip. Shannon was profoundly appreciative and a friendship formed.

Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings
The Discovery Channel’s new version of their highly successful Street Outlaws franchise is Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings. This new show will be shot at a different track every week where stars from previous Street Outlaws seasons (as well as newcomers) will race for a $40,000 first place prize. Every episode will be different as the viewers will never know who will show up to race. “No Prep” street racing is very challenging for the drivers. Every track is different, and many tracks are not prepped. Of course, Shannon will be competing in as many of these as his schedule allows. These tracks are scattered all over North America. Shannon is planning a trip to Canada to compete.
Shannon’s Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings Late Model Corvette
Shannon’s latest ride is a late model Corvette. The short wheelbase of a Midyear Corvette is not suitable for street racing. Shannon wanted to prepare a late model Corvette for the new “no-prep” series. Again, Keen Parts and the Keen family will play a part. Tom Keen located a suitable C6 Corvette body, and it is now at Shannon’s shop. As Shannon said: “No sleep now”! The new ride should be ready for the track when season three of Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings starts to film episodes. We will be watching and cheering for Shannon.
