Barn Find! It’s the cry that keeps Corvette lovers around the world searching the back roads and dilapidated barns for a long-forgotten classic. Their stories are almost as unbelievable as the cars themselves. Why would the owner leave a desirable collector vehicle to the elements when selling it would seem to be so very simple. One advertisement with a few details and a halfway reasonable price and people would be “beating down their door” to buy it.
I spent over three decades answering Corvette questions daily at the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve heard “Barn find” stories from good friends who stumbled onto famous Corvette race cars and I have given others the bad news that “There is not a secret metal-bodied Midyear Corvette hidden in a barn outside Detroit.”
“Barn Find” or “Yard Find”?
This car is technically not a “Barn Find”- more of a “Yard Find.” The lucky new owner was a customer of Keen Parts and approached us to share his story.
